We talk a lot about how a book is the perfect marketing tool to position you as an expert and help you stand out in your industry. A book can give a potential client more insight into your company’s story, and it can provide that person a chance to get to know you, both as a business owner and as a person.

We’ve seen the effect this can have. We just recently received an email from one of the San Diego business owners whose book we collaborated on. He wanted to tell us about a recent interaction with one of his brand new clients. The client was only doing a medium-sized project and had no intention of needing any additional services; however, after reading this business owner’s book, he had some new thoughts:

“I just read your book… and thoroughly enjoyed it. More importantly, I learned several key things. The first was that I’m on the right track with my latest shift in business strategy as it is intended to streamline the business by focusing on a single but diverse market (and one that is largely untapped).”

The second thing his client learned after reading the book was that he would really benefit by getting more help than he initially planned. The client hadn’t previously seen any need for ongoing services with our author’s company because he thought he could handle everything on his own. After reading the book, he was struck by the author’s passion. He realized how much further he could take his company if he stopped trying to do everything himself and allowed a professional to step in and help out.

This is a powerful thing! Not only did the client learn something from the content of the book, but he also turned around and increased his contract.  The client found so much value in what our author had to say, he wants to build a stronger relationship with him, and he wants to spend more money with the author’s San Diego company.

Having a book gives you an opportunity to share yourself with potential clients (or even current clients) in a unique way. It seems like face-to-face meetings are always too short to say everything you want about your business, but a book is your opportunity to lay it all out there. When people read your book, they’ll receive those details that may not come up in a regular conversation.

Whether you’re in San Diego or anywhere else in the U.S., we’d love to talk with you about how a book can help you build relationships with people, and how sharing your story can help you grow your business. Contact us today for more information.
